About Woodland

Woodland is one of those towns that most people have heard of, but don’t exactly know where it is or know anything about it. Many have to ask, “Do you mean Woodland Hills?” Usually it’s best associated as the city 10 minutes from UC Davis. However, Woodland is filled with history, charm, and a truly wonderful place to live.

Woodland was founded in 1861, and has a rich heritage in agriculture, architecture, beautiful farmlands, and gorgeous Victorian homes. Within the last decade, along with the expansion of the overall Sacramento area, Woodland has seen impressive and controlled growth. In 2002, Woodland had the highest percentage increase in property value in the nation. Today it is one of the only cities that can offer a homeowner a variety of choices of how to enjoy their lifestyle. On the East side of town there are beautiful new homes from some of the largest builders in the business, such as KB Homes, Centex Homes, JTS Communities, and local builders that have been here for three to four generations. If you venture into Central Woodland, you will find Victorian homes from the 1800’s, and matured neighborhoods with fantastic tree lined streets. The city is known as the “City of Trees”, and in the 1950’s had the most millionaires per capita of any city in California. Then on the West side of town, you will come across some of the most picturesque country estates both old and new, with white picket fences and rimmed with orchards. Once outsiders get the full tour, they usually can’t believe what they have seen.

As with all growth, there has been the entrance of the mass retailers…Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Costco, and a number of other specialty stores. Downtown Woodland, with it’s history dating back to the city’s inception, has remained untouched with it’s architecture, and displays one of America’s classic “Main Street USA” styles. There is a redevelopment effort currently underway that will restore the good ‘ol fashion Main Street. Some of the largest developers in the state are investing into new projects that will bring new restaurants, shops, entertainment, and living to glorify what this city has to offer.

Woodland was destined for growth, as every city surrounding it has blossomed. Davis, Natomas, Vacaville, Dixon, and all of Yolo County has seen growth. The revitalization of Woodland will be a success, but the city officials are committed to maintaining an atmosphere of a small town with a friendly, peaceful, unhurried pace of life. The location could not be more centralized to some of California’s most treasured areas. It is within two hours of Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe and Reno, San Francisco, Yosemite, Silicon Valley, and a little further you can reach Carmel and Pebble Beach. Being only 10 minutes from the Sacramento International Airport also makes it easy to travel.

So enjoy Woodland, and enjoy our Community website. We believe people do not just buy homes for how they look, but for where they are located. Our website is intended to compliment the city by bringing value, entertainment, and being a one-stop source to everything you would want and need to enjoy our city.
